Jersey’s tourism industry calls for caravan ban to be lifted

The BBC is reporting that Jersey’s tourism and hospitality industry is calling for the ban on caravans and motorhomes in the Channel Islands to be lifted.

Currently, you can take a car or even a lorry but not a caravan – although it is only a three hour ferry ride away from the mainland. These vehicles have been banned on the Channel Islands for 40 years, ostensibly because of the narrow and winding roads.

However, the Islands are struggling to maintain visitor numbers and some within the industry believe caravanners could now bring some much-needed cash to local restaurants and attractions.

If the ban is lifted, it is possible that caravans and motorhomes will only be allowed on certain roads at certain times.
