HMRC: an update on CJRS

Wages for furloughed employees are now being paid through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS). Payments for claims made on Monday 20 April should be in employers’ bank accounts by 28 April.

If you have already made a claim

HMRC says it usually takes six working days from when the claim was made – they have requested companies not to call to chase payment. Businesses don’t need to do anything to receive payment as it will automatically be sent to the bank account nominated in their claim.

Please retain all records and calculations for your claims in case HMRC need to contact you about them in future, as they check claims.

If you have not yet made a claim

You can still claim online for a grant for 80% of furloughed employees’ salaries, to a maximum of £2,500 per employee, per month. You will receive the funds in six working days, provided your claim matches records HMRC holds for your PAYE scheme.

Please read Government guidance before you apply and continue to keep your furloughed employees informed. The NCC has also prepared guidance to help businesses.
