It has been reported that Welcome to Yorkshire has entered voluntary administration. According to the BBC, Yorkshire’s main tourism body folded after council leaders agreed to cut off its funding.

Welcome to Yorkshire (WtY) has faced a difficult three years amid the coronavirus pandemic and the departure of two chief executives.

It is understood that councils in Yorkshire are working on setting up a new venture to promote the county. There is speculation that this new venture might be directly controlled by local authorities and operate as public body.

Some believe this demise heightens the need for the De Bois Review to be fully implemented, thereby strengthening the DMO network to develop destinations and encourage domestic tourism.
